Ms. Showell founded the Showell Foundation,
Inc. in March, 2004. After receiving her undergraduate degree in Sports
Medicine and minor in Psychology from Tennessee State University, and
continuing her graduate education at Harvard University and the
University of Maryland, College Park, Ms. Showell became compelled to:
1) support the advancement of minorities and the disadvantaged in the
areas of higher education, especially those who elect to attend HBCUs
(Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and Ivy League
institutions; 2) enhance the social, cultural, and educational
competencies afforded to our youth, and 3) provide counseling to enhance
emotional health. Ms. Showell not only desires to aid young people in
the academic arena, but to provide support in the lives of at-risk
youth. In an effort to continue her vision and better understand and
help diverse populations, Ms. Showell received her Master of Arts in
Counseling from Biblical Theological Seminary in May, 2007. She is
currently authoring her first book. Ms. Showell brings, in sum, over 15 years
experience in the areas of education and counseling. Having served as a high
school teacher, mentor, college professor, and educational consultant and
advisor to various HBCUs, she became privy to the inadequacies of the
“pre-collegiate” educational system and realized the significant gap between
social, emotional, and educational maturity. She has worked directly with
students from Coppin State College, Roxbury Community College, Cheyney
University, and various high schools to bridge these gaps and to enhance
reading comprehension, writing dexterities, critical thinking skills,
self-esteem, etiquette skills, and social aptitude to name a few. Of those
15 years, she has spent over five helping to change people’s behavior
through counseling. The programs offered by the SF allow students to become
successful, well rounded, and productive leaders while prompting valuable
contributions to society.
Ms. Showell speaks to an audience of As CEO, she utilizes all of her acquired and
learned skills to run the organization. She maintains her vision by
managing the development and implementation of programs that are
designed to facilitate positive and necessary change in our communities.
This is her obliged duty. Her work has helped numerous people from the
east to the west coast, ranging from high school students to senior
executives and professional athletes. Her endless efforts to promote a
productive society rely heavily on the creation of unique and pioneering
programs that truly inspire change within self, thereby changing
communities.
